Well, I'm probably happy in my ignorance then!

It's soooo much fun discussing other peoples politicians rather than your own.

I say for the next 20 years, we only vote individuals with the last name of Bush and Clinton. Yes, Chelsea and George P. Bush can run by then.

give all the kids a break - all those who whined about Chelsea getting the press and being harassed turned around adn started on the Bush twins...

kids shouldn't be anywhere near the press.

I agree thumper. Man, did poor Chelsea get drilled by the press. I don't care if she was the Clinton's daughter. No kid should be exposed to that.

We brought in laws over here to protect the kids from the press. I think it was because of Harry and William.

Do you not have the same thing over there?

It's pretty shocking to hear that most US citizens are without medical insurance. What on earth do you do if you get ill?

In the UK people just tend to take for granted the fact that we do not have to pay. I had an operation last year, and did not pay a penny.

We pay our own bills. Is that so hard to understand? The impoverished have 24 hr access to the emergency rooms and they hardly ever pay their bills, but they are liable for them nonetheless. I have bills from years ago that I am just now getting around to paying. Why should anyone else be obligated to pay for MY medical expenses? a.k.a entitlement mentality. The fact is, SOMEBODY has to pay for the health care. Privatised health care forces providers to compete for patients byoffering better services and lower prices.

The noun hippie has one meaning:

someone who rejects the established culture; advocates extreme liberalism in politics and lifestyle.

How about a love for humankind? A love for peace? A respect for the planet? Color blind eyes? That is what being a hippie is about. Not extreme left politics.

You're welcome. That's why, reading posters who support BUSH - makes no sense to me. Hippies would not - could not - support a conservative-right wing agenda. No way.

I support Bush in most of his decisions and I am regarded by most as a hippie. Being a hippie is not about gay love, civil unions, greenpeace, etc. It is about seeing the world through OPEN eyes and feeling empathy for the world around you. "War sucks!" But it is necessary sometimes. "Life is precious." So is unborn life. "Make love not war" To what end? aborted fetuses? Foreign enemies who do not care if you love them or not as long as they can destroy you later? The hippie culture seems to want to stay in a make-believe utopian fantasy world while civilization struggles to survive around them. Who wouldn't? But that is not reality and as such we must embrace the world we live in and each other and make it a better place for future generations. Sometimes that means kicking a bully's ass. Sometimes it means innocent people get hurt because the bully hides behind them.

Hippie is a mind set and attitude, not a political agenda. Agendas must change to meet the needs of the time, but true love for each other dictates action to protect the weak and innocent whenever possible.

Great post, Hookahjuice... I don't agree with the original post that indicated being a hippie means one needs to be far left. You're right, it's not political agenda at all from what I've seen. I would assume a percentage is liberal and a percentage is conservative or maybe not even leaning either way... just like any other group of individuals.
