|
|
Ok, I live in Mississippi, and there are no cactus growing here; but the south does have a history of hippies, right?
Janis Joplin was the ultimate hippie and she's from Louisiana - about 300 miles from where I live! Of course, her childhood was terrible; the locals hated her.
Her town (Port Arthur) was smashed to smithereens in either Katrina or Rita last year.
Very sad - some of her stuff is even gone. I read online about a woman who had saved a yearbook with Janis Joplins'picture in it; often turning down thousands of dollars for it - and it was destroyed in the storm.
SAD.
Anyway - My name is Pam! |

Hi Pam
nice to hear from someone in Mississippi.
Janis Joplin has quite a following in the UK too. |

Janis Joplin is a true tragedy, in my opinion.
So sad. A troubled, incoherently depressed woman with incredible talent. |

it's sad to think of all that she could have accomplished later on in life with her talent...

| What is sad is how miserable she seemed to be during her short life. |

Wasn't the film The Rose, or maybe just Rose, based on her life?
I know it didn't do very well. |

"The Rose" with Bette Midler was based on a "Janis Joplin like character."
Too bad, really. None of Joplins music was used in the film, either.
It would have been much better if her music had been used, and Bette Midler is tremendously talented, but Janis was hardly a Jewish redhead!
I just re-watched this film about a month ago, and was disapointed. |

I remember seeing it years ago and remember it was linked to JJ.
I don't think it did very well at the time and recall Bette Midler saying she was only going to do films with long titles in the future. |

| I like Bette Midler. Did you ever see Divine Madness? It was quite unusual for its time. |

I remember reading there were a couple of Janis Joplin movie bio's in the works. I thought I remembered reading there were some big stars set to film, but when I Googled-I found a site that listed a movie in the works starring (but with astriks next to their names) Jennifer Tilly, Willy Nelson and Stone Cold Steve Austin |

Yes, I did see Divine Madness.
She surely fitted the title!
It would be nice to see a good bio film of JJ. I wonder who they could get to play her well? |
