I only saw the band play once - in the mid 90's in Las Vegas. Of course, the real reason to go to a Dead concert was to watch the DEAD HEADS.
Anybody else? |

What were the Dead Heads, Eerie?
Presumably their fans?
I saw Jerry Garcia interviewed a couple of times. He seemed like a really nice guy. |

The dead heads were a complete culture unto themselves! They traveled with the GRATEFUL DEAD - but, not with the band. The DEAD heads drove VW buses and old cars - wore petruli oil, and dreadlocks in their hair. They set up flea markets outside any venue the DEAD was playing - and sold everything from Tie dyed clothing to jewelry to drugs. If they were lucky - some actually got tickets to the concerts, but many if not most were happy to stay outside the concert -- which was usually held outside.
They worshipped the band - lived for the music. It was like one long Woodstock. Everytime the GRATEFUL DEAD played anywhere - the DEAD HEADS were there, too. Hundreds and hundreds of them - it was awesome! |

| Oh, right. Interesting to hear. So the Grateful Dead had quite a following, I guess. |

Yes, a huge following. When the DEAD came to town, the place was swarming with DEAD HEADS.
It was AWESOME! |
