I tend to avoid war movies, but ... what are generally regarded as being good movies on the topic of Vietnam?

Which ones would you recommend?

Is it Born on The Fourth of July?

Tom Cruise movie.

I saw it years ago. It was very hard hitting and showed how appallingly vets were treated.

Thanks, I may take a look at it.

On WWI, "The Trench" is a very good movie. About events prior to the Somme. Very watchable - focuses on the quiet time in the trench before they go over the top. You get to know the characters. It's not a lot of shooting, and stuff like that, that's why I could watch it.

"Good Morning Vietnam" with Robin Williams - he's funny, but it gives a really interesting perspective of the war... I liked it!

Well, I don't suppose you can touch upon this subject with mentioning MASH, the movie or the series.

So touching and yet so funny at the same time.

Dolly! MASH was Korea, not Vietnam!

Still worth mentioning, though. All these wars tend to just kinda run into one another anyway...

Oh!

I honestly thought it was.

What happened there then?

I wonder if Born on The Fourth of July was Korea as well then? Don't think so.

Mash was Korean, Born on the Fourth was Vietnam... so was Forest Gump, in a way - along with Platoon...

wonder if we'll see more about the first Gulf War - back 15 years ago!

I never saw Platoon, the trailers just looked too hard hitting for me.

I hate seeing situations that I can't do anything about.

Platoon was an excellent movie, as was Born on The Fourth of July. Forest Gump was just on the other night. Can you believe it has been that long since it was filmed? Seems like it just came out, but you know they are older when TBS is running them over and over again.

I loved Forrest Gump, but guess I was the only person in the cinema who thought he was really playing table tennis.

Shame I had to say it out loud Embarassed
